Geraniums

I mentioned in an earlier post that I got some geraniums for our porch pots.  Does anyone else remember when geraniums came with a choice of only "red"?  Occasionally you might see a pink one or a white one, but basically, if you wanted to buy geraniums, you got "red".

When I went to the garden center, I had at least ten different shades of red to choose from.  Each one slightly different.  And not displayed in groups.  And not all in bloom.  I had to read the tiny tags.  I spent some time trying to find two the same shade!  I wanted the "Classic Red".  Found them!

Is this really progress?  They were all pretty.  But couldn't the geranium designers just have left it at "red"?
