Sun Flowers

Please keep the people of Ukraine in your thoughts and prayers.  Feel free to share this picture.  The Sun Flower is the national flower of Ukraine.  A friend posted on Face Book and asked for it to be shared.

I Don't Know Where the Time Went

Huh.  I've thought about writing quite a few times and just haven't gotten to it.  Sorry.

We are still here!  Since my last post, seems like there have been more things to do and more going on.  Les has had an appointment with the Neurologist and will be having some testing in a couple weeks and another appointment.  I won't go into details.  He is doing "okay" but we would like for him to be doing better.

The work on the chimney was completed and now all we have to do is repair/paint the spot on the ceiling above the fireplace.

Our riding mower was picked up and taken for annual service and is already returned to us and in the shed for when Les needs to use it.

We've had some warm days, then cold ones, then warm, and right now it is cold again.  But on a warm day, I got some pansies and got them potted and on the porch.  They are doing well and I enjoy looking at them.

Our neighbor had some major tree work done and several large trees removed.  A couple of those were ones that always dropped branches, cones, and bits, etc. into our yard every time we had any kind of wind or storm.  Had to do some cleanup in our yard after the work was done over there.  We have a lot more sunlight in our yard now and hopefully the grass will grow better.

Also on one of the warm days, we took both cars to the carwash for a good cleaning inside and out!

I got a haircut and that feels better.

I had my annual checkup with our GP Doc.  That was okay but he discovered I have a major UTI and I had to go back for some additional tests.  I'm currently on some antibiotics and when they are finished, I go back for more tests.  Fortunately, or UNfortunately, I rarely have any symptoms with a UTI, so I have no idea I have one.  If left untreated, infections can spread, so that is a concern.  Now I am just dealing with effects of the pills.

We spent some time getting new phones.  Les has been researching and then we went to the Verizon store and discussed.  The phones were delivered to us this past week and we have an appointment to go on Monday for them to do the set-up and get them ready to use.  Nice phones, and I'm sure we will like using them.  But the whole process of getting a new phone is very much like buying a new car! Geez!

And that is where the time went other than the usual things that have to be done around here.

Brrrrrr

We had two very nice days of warmer temperatures and sunshine.  Yesterday I worked in the yard for a couple hours and got some cleanup and pruning done.  It would have been a perfect day to go to the garden center and get some pansies for the porch pots . . . . except for the forecast for today.

Today it was 41 the last I looked and the temperature is dropping. It might snow this evening. I could do without the snow.  I saw some buds and leaves starting on our Hydrangeas.  Some of the neighbors have Crocus and Daffodils coming up.

So, today is Super Bowl Sunday.  I need to check what time things start so I can get my shower and be ready.  I don't want to miss any of the commercials!

Jacquie says they are all okay at her house.  C & E sent their Valentines in to their class.  They had to be there a week early for "decontamination".  Not sure what that involves, but probably sounds like a good idea.  The way of the world now.

Pam says they are okay there at her house.  Everyone is busy.  School is going well. B just received an award. Congratulations to her!

I got an early Valentine gift from Les.  Beautiful, cute, and yummy!  Love you, honey!

Another Memory

A favorite Winter activity for the Junior Grange (see previous posts) was ice skating.  In Ohio. Like I said, in the Winter.  Cold.  Snow.  On Hodgson's frozen pond which was often quite bumpy.  Know what?  We did not care.  We went out there anyway.  It would take hours to thaw out, but we did not care.  It was fun!

Yes, that is me with the red pom-poms on my skates.  You never imagined that, did you?  I also owned roller skates.  As a child, they were the kind of metal ones with a key and leather straps. Those are tucked away upstairs in the closet now.  When Jacquie and Pam were little, I had white leather skates and wore them when I took the girls to the local rink.  And those skates also had pom-poms!

Stay safe.  Take care of yourselves.  As I always say, life is good.  God Bless America!

The Grubbs

Way back when, 😊 Les' whole family belonged to The Grange.  His Dad was the Grange Master, the rest of the family held offices, also.  Our Moms both worked at Nickles Bakery in the town where I lived.  Somehow our Moms decided that I might like to attend the Junior Grange meetings.  And there you go, that's how Les and I met.

Now, having given you that history of our Moms getting us together, here is the story of the picture.  It was the 1960's, the Beatles were the rage.  The Grange had a talent show.  Les and some of the other guys decided they would be The Grubbs. In honor of the Beatles, they lip-synced "I Wanna' Hold Your Hand".  I remember they were wonderful!  And the hit of the show!  The other girls and I did our parts and swooned appropriately.  💕

Good times.  Good memories.

Take care of yourselves and stay safe.  Life is good.  God Bless America!

Okay, have you picked which young man is Les?

He is on the far right of the picture holding a guitar.  And to answer any questions, no, he did not play the guitar.  Sadly, Beatles music did not feature trombones.  That he could do! 💗

Stay safe!

Moms

You all probably know that I am so done with cold and snow, and I am ready for warmth and sunshine.  I was looking through some photos and ran across this one of  Les' Mom and my Mom.  They liked warm sunshine, too.  Picture was taken on what must have been a group outing at Baylor Beach, in Ohio.  Les and I would have been teenagers at the time.  Just wanted to share.

Take care of yourselves and stay safe.  Life is good, so are good memories.  God Bless America!

YAY!

Saw the announcement this morning.  "Reacher" has been renewed for season two!  Hope they hurry it up!

Reacher!

Alan Ritchson has absolutely nailed portraying Jack Reacher!  Les and I have read all of Lee Child's Reacher books and love them.  And we've seen the movies with Tom Cruise.  As much as we have liked the movies, Tom just never fit the image of Reacher described in the books. We watched all of this new series over a couple nights and can't wait for a season two.  Well done!

Last evening we started watching "1883", the prequel to "Yellowstone".  I liked "Yellowstone because of the scenery.  We lived in Colorado for four years and we took a long road trip out West a few years ago.  I just love the wide open spaces and the mountains.  Well, anyway, "1883" is a little different, but it seems like a pretty good show.  There is some violence, of course, and so far the scenery is not as great, but their trip West is just getting started.  It is a different story and a different time.

I have some questions though. In 1883, in Fort Worth, Texas, did men actually wear lavender suits?  The man in the lavender suit was in several scenes.  I'm guessing he just got to town and hadn't bought his jeans, jacket, and boots yet.

And then, there is a question of dental care.  The people all looked like they could use a good long bath.  But running, hot water wasn't a thing back then.  How in the world did they have such straight, extremely white teeth??

And this is the end of my TV reviews. You might be glad!

Les and I are alright. Our pest control guy was here this morning for the quarterly visit. Next week we have a couple doctor appointments.  We are expecting the rest of the chimney repair to be done some time this week.

It is still cold here, and supposed rain later today.  The first warmer, and drier, day that we get, I plan to get out and do some pruning.

Take care of yourselves and stay safe.  Life is good.  And God Bless America!

Here We Are

It is almost the weekend again.  Today it is dark and raining but temperatures are in the 60's.  That is not going to last though.  Later today the temperature will start to drop and tomorrow's high is forecast for 36.  But the rain should stop and the weather people are not talking about snow again for us!  So, yay!

I've been trying to keep up with things and do some odds and ends around the house.  Also did a few errands this week.

The repair work on our chimney was started.  The first phase is all done.  The man took pictures of it so we could see.  (you know neither of us goes up on the roof) 😊  Next phase of the work should start next week.  When that is done we can get our "painter guy" here to repair the living room ceiling.

Our family is all well as far as I know. Grandkids are all in classrooms and going to school.  Everyone is busy.

When I was reading the paper this morning, I was glad to see that the hen that broke through security at the Pentagon was rescued and has a new home.  But no one has any idea where she came from!  🐔

We're having a quiet day here and it is time to go see what we are having for lunch.  Take care of yourselves and stay safe.  Life is good!  And God Bless America!
