Happy Easter Weekend!

And Happy Spring!

Golfer is playing golf today.  Our weather cooled off overnight, but it's still nice out, just cooler.  The sun is shining, the temperature is in mid-50's, and the pollen is flying around!

As I was having my breakfast and reading the paper this morning, I started to hear a noise from outside.  I thought it was awful early for someone to be mowing, and figured it was just a truck.  But it never stopped.  Finally I got up and went to look and it was our landscaper who did the work last Fall.  He and his guys were out there fixing some problems.  They worked for several hours and everything is all done and looks lovely.  There is one patched strip along our driveway that we need to water every day for a week.  But the back area is all done and looks good!

You can't tell from this picture, but there are already buds on the hydrangeas and rhododendrons.

And since I was out there taking pictures, here's one of another area in the back yard.

The rest of the day is just doing odds and ends; no major chores or things on the schedule.  Stay safe and have a great weekend!

Geez! Another Fast, Busy Week!

I hope everyone is well and happy.  And I hope none of you are in snow!

We've had another week of beautiful weather here.  Sunshine, some little bits of rain, warm breezes, and then the resulting pollen!  Lots of things blooming and sprouting.  The little, stringy, fuzzy things that fall off the trees have started.  I cleaned off the porch and walk this morning and it already needs to be done again.

Our many appointments have gone well this week.  Golfer's PT is hard work, but seems to be helping.  The appointment with our dermatologist for him went okay and the spot on his back is healing.  His back pain is better and he has been able to get out and play golf.  He saw the orthopedic doctor and x-rays were ordered.  They showed arthritis and "normal aging".  Don't you just love when your doctor tells you "well, you are getting older"?  Some medication was prescribed to keep on hand if the severe pain starts again.

The appraiser came and did his work.  The refinancing is progressing.  There was another round of emails, copying, scanning, sending, etc. yesterday afternoon.  I had to call with a question about something they requested and I was told we were probably looking at a mid-April closing.

Our girls are doing okay, so they tell me when I ask.  :)  School is going well for all the kids.  Boxer got his first pair of glasses and is getting used to to them.  Cutie Girl has been helping her Daddy with some construction at their house.  Evidently her shoes came off because she liked the sand between her toes!

So, life is good.  Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend!

Busy Week, and Another One Coming Up!

Hey, all!  I hope you're well and happy!

We've been busy around here.  As I have mentioned, Golfer has been having some back issues and has been recuperating and not playing golf.  That's been the really hard part because we have had some beautiful weather lately.  Not today when it's in the 40's.  But those sunny days in the 80's were great!

Anyway, Golfer started some PT on Friday.  He'll go twice a week for at least four weeks.  They've told him some of the exercises he's been doing are wrong and he should stop those and start some new ones.  And watch his posture.  We can hear our Moms calling out "stand up straight"!  He is feeling better and seems to be able to do more each day.  He hopes to play golf next week.

Our mortgage refinancing is progressing which resulted in a flurry of activity one afternoon when we had calls and emails needing us to sign additional forms.  They were emailed to us, printed, signed, scanned and saved and then I emailed them back.  That was followed up by some phone tag with the appraiser to set an appointment.  He is coming on Wednesday afternoon.

All the tax people seem to be on top of things and our refunds are already in our savings account.  Yay!  We are just thrilled we didn't have to pay this year.

I had my mammogram and already have the "normal" results and have been reminded to come back next year.  So all is well there.

This coming week will be filled with appointments. In addition to the appraiser,  I have my annual check-up and lab work.  Golfer has PT twice, a dermatology appointment to remove a basal cell carcinoma that was just biopsied, and he has a dental appointment.

As much as he hated to do it, Golfer mowed the grass yesterday, edged, and trimmed.  I went out and helped with some pruning and the clean-up and we did some other chores in the yard.  Things are looking much better.  He usually doesn't start the mowing until in April, but the grass has grown so much over the Winter, it needed to be done.

We have started some advance planning in preparation of our 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2017.  After some discussion we checked with the Country Club here in Kiln Creek first.  It was lovely and beautiful, but we were shocked at how much it cost to rent their "party" room for a few hours.  AND.... the date we wanted was already booked by someone else.  So we are looking at other options and think we have found what we want.  We're still pinning down details, more later. :)

Another happy event this coming week will be the arrival of our new recycling bin!  Sounds silly, doesn't it?  But ever since they came out a few year ago with the larger blue bins on wheels, I've wanted one.  I'm not able to carry the current one and have to drag it out if I'm moving it.  Our neighborhood wasn't allowed to have them until now.  Wednesday is our swap out day!

As I said, our weather has changed and it's now cold and gray.  Supposed to rain later.  At least they've stopped mentioning snow like they were doing earlier in forecasts!

Stay safe!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It's been a busy day here.  I won't go into details.  So look at this pretty picture of the daffodils at Victory Blvd. and J. Clyde Morris.  :)  There are more blooming all along J. Clyde in the median.  Very pretty.  And along Victory there are pink bud trees in bloom.

Stay safe!

You Know It's Almost Spring. . . . .

The birds are chirping, the sun is bright, the days have been warm, there are buds on the shrubs, flowers are blooming, pollen counts on TV have started, pretty little birds are trying to build a nest in your porch light, and your husband shaves off his face hair.  :)  Life is good!

And I'd like to add that my mood has improved greatly since my last post.  All is not well with the world, but it is what it is.

The week has been a little rough here because Golfer is having back issues again. Having had my own back issues in the past, I really feel for him.  And I can tell, by how he's been moving and how he has let me help him a couple times, that he is hurting.  Doctor appointments are lined up and some PT is in the future.  I hope someone figures out why this keeps happening and something can be done about it so he can get back out on the golf course.  I know that would  help his well being and mood.

I've been busy doing all the usual household chores and keeping up with things.  Just finished another good book - Brotherhood in Death by J.D. Robb.   After I catch up on the magazines in my pile, I'm going to start on another Jack Reacher!  Golfer has been reading the Craig Johnson Longmire series.

Nurse J and family are doing okay.  We went to a large consignment sale this morning to look for clothes for Cutie Girl and the new baby.  Found several nice things, but someone else beat us to the double stroller that she was interested in.

Bikini and family are doing well and all are busy.  Boxer and Bloomer had their annual checkups and they are both 5'2".  Boxer has to have an eye exam and may be getting glasses.  I asked if he was concerned about that and Bikini said he just considers it one more thing to ruin his life.  :) He's almost a teenager.  He'll get over that.

Besides the appointments for Golfer's back, we have several others coming up.  They seem to run in six month cycles.  Dental and eye exams for Golfer, rheumatologist and a mammogram for me, Medicare Wellness checks for both of us.

Our taxes were filed on Monday and by Friday one of our refunds was deposited!  Hooray for state efficiency!  We are also refinancing our mortgage and are aiming for a late April closing on that.  We impressed the agent we met with by having all the paperwork with us and she could finalize the beginning process while we were meeting.  So, yay for us!

stay safe!  And remember - - - -

Sigh

For some reason, I am in worry mode.  Nothing terrible has happened, and nothing urgent going on.  I'm pretty sure it isn't a hormonal flux either.  :)  My Mom always told me that it didn't matter how old I got, I was always her little girl.  That is so right, she was still saying it when she died at 101.  Golfer and I have two great daughters.  They are smart, capable, responsible adults.  They are good mothers.  They are the principal income-producers in their families with great jobs.  They work hard. And yet I worry about them.  So I am trying to tell myself not to stress about things.  Wish me luck.

The general state of the country worries me a lot, too.  And the world.  A friend recently posted this on Facebook.  It sums up my feelings on a lot of things.

I think I may go out and sit in the sun.  It's cool outside but is supposed to get a lot warmer this week.  I'm sure this will help my mood.  I don't tolerate whiners, so I am telling myself to "suck it up and get on with it".

Stay safe, people!

Weekend Update

Our weather has been sort of all over the place this week.  Warm, cold, lots of wind, some sun, snow Thursday night that was gone by Friday morning, and back and forth.  Today is cloudy and in the high 40's as I write this.

The rain coordinated with the usual days that the guys play golf, so there hasn't been much time out on the course for Golfer.  He is all layered up and playing today though.  The coming week is supposed to get into the high 70's and we're both looking forward to that.

The yard work is under control for right now.  Although Golfer is starting to think about how he's going to have to mow the grass and rake soon.  The porch pansies are doing well and I enjoy seeing them from the dining room window.

When it gets warmer, we need to have the house and shed power-washed.  The air must have been particularly dirty this Winter.  And with the humidity and rain, we have some algae growing on the siding in some areas.  Ick.  Usually when it's just a small spot I just go out with the long-handled brush and the Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner and be done with it.  Too big a job for that now!

I think I'm going to have to paint the  mailbox and post, too.  That's sore point with me.  Because of ARB restrictions and guidelines, we must have a certain type of mailbox.  I'm okay with that.  But when we needed to get a new one, we bought exactly what they recommended.  It was supposed to be a "never have to paint" white one.  That was a lie.  I found out that nothing cleans it either.  So it will get a new coat of paint.

The furry kids have been on guard and keeping an eye on things from the windows.  Here are Angus and Finnigan watching some tiny birds out front this morning.  I think the birds were checking out a location for nest building in the large azalea.  Cecil had already finished his breakfast and gone upstairs for his morning nap.  :)

Golfer got our tax paperwork all sorted and we dropped that off with our preparer.  We went and got our new recreation passes so we can get into the pools when they open in May.  All the usual household chores have been done.  Life is good.

Stay safe!

How We Spent Our Tuesday

This post is to let you know that we are not just retired, old fogies who just sit around and read, go to the "Y" and play golf.  :)

The day started out as usual with the watching of "Mike and Mike" on ESPN, the usual morning chores, breakfast, and paper reading.  Life is good!

Then we were off to a personal gun safety class taught by a really nice retired policeman named Andy.  There was a lot we did not know.  :)  We do now.  He determined our dominant eyes.  I am right dominant, Golfer is left eye dominant.  We shot some rounds on a simulator to check our sighting.  Then we went to the shooting range.  Golfer shot a semi-automatic.  I shot a 38 revolver.  Here are our results:

Yay!

I started out well, but the more I shot the more my hands felt it.  And at some point I switched eyes and that threw things off.  If you can see the holes at the top of the target and the head and neck shots, that's when I was shooting with just the left hand.   But you can see that I hit the middle quite a few times!  I want to go again!

For those of you who are saying "Huh, ????"  When I was a girl, many years ago - haha - Mom made sure I could shoot her gun.  We'd go to one of her friend's farms and shoot in an empty field, or walk the railroad tracks out to the bridge over the Tuscarawas River.  We would stand there and shoot at cans and trash floating down the river.  It was a really bad time in history for pollution, around the time Lake Erie caught on fire.  That is all cleaned up now and it's very nice.  Of course, it is now illegal to walk on the tracks or to shoot at the river.  But, hey, times change, and life moves on!

So we finished our class, and it was lunch time.  We had an Italian buffet at Luigi's, which just recently reopened for lunch after being closed many years.  It was good and I loved the music they were playing.  I always have liked Dean Martin.

Then we went to vote.

Here's another gun picture for you to ponder:

This is me on my sixth birthday.  Notice the gun and holster.  Mrs. Applebee let me wear that to school, all day, for show and tell!  We were always allowed to bring in our favorite present on our birthdays.  No one complained. I was not expelled.  No one got upset, except maybe the other kids who wanted one, too.

Stay safe, people!
