Where Else but Here? ? ?

So I was sitting in traffic earlier - this is a very common occurrence around this area - and along comes a spiffy truck pulling a lovely Colonial looking cannon.  It was all polished and shiny.  So, what? ? ? Museum display or going off to battle?  I wasn't fast enough with my new phone to get a picture.  My phone stays put away while I'm driving.  But a cannon is something to think about!

Stay safe and have a great weekend!

This is a Perfect Day for a Good Rant

I mentioned in the previous post that quite a few of Golfer's and my favorite TV shows have been cancelled.  Another one bit the dust today.  And frankly, the way today is going, this an excellent time to voice my opinion.  So here is an open letter to NBC:

Dear NBC:

You have axed some very good shows.  And what is your reasoning on this?  You have said, "the audience was too old".  How dare you!?  Who do you think the audience is that has the time to watch your shows?  Who do you think has any disposable income to support your advertisers?  Who sticks with you while you move shows around and make them hard to find?

I know my opinion doesn't mean squat to any of you, but know this, I take names and you are on my list.

Oh so respectfully,

Geez

And since I am venting here's a message for the American Family Association:

Dear Uptight Sirs:

I realize you have done some very good work in the past.  Thanks.

However,  you are way off the mark in your criticisms of "GCB".  (this is another show that I enjoyed a lot that has been cancelled)  You stated that "GCB is a mockery to Christianity".  Not so; and if you had spent some time working in a church, you would know that some of the topics were pretty on target.  Have you not paid attention to some of the things being done in the name of Christianity?   A church is, after all, made up of human beings with all sorts of issues and problems and idiosyncrasies.

My God is a happy God, so why not laugh with His people?

Good luck to you in the future,

Geez

Stay safe out there, folks!

Happy Mothers Day, Ladies!

And on another topic, I wish the TV networks had consulted me.  I just saw the list of shows that were cancelled this past week and there are NINE that Golfer and I watch regularly and like.  So, BOOOOO!  I suppose we'll be subjected to more stupid reality shows.  I guess we'll have more time for movies and reading!

It's lovely weather here; in the 70's and sunny with a breeze.  I just came in from a little yard clean-up and checking for weeds.  The new mulch is doing a great job.  I only found three small weeds to yank up!  Golfer is finishing the mowing as I write this.

We still have azaleas blooming.  The pansies are still holding up and looking good thanks to the nice weather lately.  The day lilies have some buds and one of the new hydrangea bushes has buds!  I'm so excited about that.  I've never had hydrangeas but have always loved the way they look.  My Grama and Mom always had some and they would make big bouquets and even tried drying them to keep over the Winter.

My project of going through all the boxes of mementos and photos is pretty much finished.  Got rid of a bunch of stuff and sorted out a box for each of the girls.  At some point in the future I will sort through the one (yes, only one!)  box of photos I kept and we'll scan them into the computer and onto discs.  But for now, that can be on "hold".

Golfer got us tickets to see "Mamma Mia" at The Ferguson Center at CNU this evening.  I'm looking forward to hearing the good tunes!

I hope everyone has a good day.  Stay safe!

Way to Make a Job Harder

or otherwise known as "what kind of planning was this?"

So. I need to make the church a new database.  Nothing too intricate; I want to keep it simple so if I decide one day I can't take it anymore, I can leave something they can work with.  :)

I asked the Board of Deacons to get me some updated information on all the people.  Do they give me a database form?  Do they even give me a spreadsheet?  (I love spreadsheets!)   NOOOOOOOO!  What I get is an MSWord document with many text boxes and columns.  And a lot of those are empty.  ARGGGGH!  I have just had a conversation with the Chair of the Board of Deacons and explained the problem.  If this is going to be used for mailing newsletters and contacting people, we need their addresses and their phone numbers, not just a name.  Ohhhhhhh.  I could almost see the light go on.

Wish me luck.

And stay safe!

Best Bulletin Cover Ever!

One of my "peeves" around the church office is the way the bulletin covers have changed over the years.  They used to be lovely and religious themed.  Lately some of them have just been plain ugly.  I was unpacking a new box of them and found the best ever cover!  True, it's not religious themed, and doesn't look "churchy", but if you're going to have one that doesn't, it should be this one!

Stay safe!
