P.S. !

I forgot to post a picture of the second bathroom re-do!

The counter-top came from an interesting place where they fabricate counter-tops and sell the remnants. When I went to buy a top at our tile place, they sent me to the warehouse to look. Since it's just a small size, there were lots of choices. There were pieces stacked up all over the place and the man said to look until I found something I liked. Then he took a big mallet and knocked off a chunk to bring home to show Golfer!

More later!

Hey, all!

Things are gradually looking a little more normal around here. I've had a little extra time for the unpacking and putting away and cleaning this week. Golfer has been TDY to Utah. While he's been having fun getting stuck in the snow out there, I've been busy working on the house and catching up. Also, no cooking this week. The first day he was gone I made a BIG pot of vegetable soup - not one of Golfer's favorites, so I don't make it often. I do not have a problem eating the same thing more than once so that was easy. Whenever I was ready to eat, I heated up soup!

Anyway, I thought I'd try posting some pictures. We're not done yet, but you can get the idea I think. Golfer still has the molding or quarter-round to stain and install all around. First is the dining room.

Then a view of the accent tile around the hearth.

Then a view of the kitchen. This is a good look at the tile floor.

Then a shot of the accent area we designed for the foyer.

And finally one of the living room. When we get all finished and everything is in place, we'll take some more pictures.
It's cold again here and breezy, but the sun is out. Golfer returns this evening.
Stay safe and enjoy the weekend!

Ahhh! Cleaning!

The laminate floors are beautiful! The men need to return for a quick visit to install a threshold from the foyer into the dining room, but other than that, the big work is done! And I have begun cleaning! Just in case any of you are contemplating doing some upgrades or remodeling to your homes, when the man tells you "there will probably be some mess and dust", believe him. Everyone who has worked in our home has been pretty careful and has tried to clean up after themselves. And honestly, I expected some mess and dirt so I am not surprised or upset. It's time to do "Spring cleaning" anyway.

So the window, curtain, drape, floor and wall washing has begun. A few other things are getting washed also. Things are either getting put through the washer and dryer, the dishwasher, or getting vacuumed! The furry kids are watchful!

Speaking of the furry kids... they had a little adjustment time learning to walk on the wood floor - no traction! They did a few wheelies and slid on their butts a couple times, but they seem fine now. I think they like that their toys make more noise and bounce higher now.

When I have finished cleaning and putting things away I'll get some pictures taken and post them. Have to get back to work now. I have one more pair of drapes to press and hang.

More later. Stay safe!

Hey, All! I'm Back and in a Better Mood!

You know that saying about when God closes one door he opens a window?????? Golfer and I sat around in a major mood for a little while last Friday. There were phone calls and many apologies from the store owner. Apologies about the supplier sending the wrong size roll of carpet. Apologies about the store employees not checking the order. Just sorry apologies. Hey, stuff happens. So there we sat. The carpet was rescheduled for Monday. We watched some TV around the piles of stuff emptied from the rooms to be carpeted. Then we thought about it and decided what an opportune time to paint two of those rooms! (our bedroom has recently been painted) So we were off to Sherwin-Williams. And we spent the weekend painting walls and woodwork. Looks pretty good. The rooms each had one piece of furniture left in them, and who cared if we dropped any paint on the floor??? We were tired, but felt like we had accomplished something.

The installers came on Monday. The new carpet is lovely and very nice. We have been moving things back all week. We are just about finished. It has taken so long because we have been sorting and cleaning out as we go. Plus, the new computer desk was delivered on Tuesday. Golfer has started getting things set up again. He'll start transferring programs and files this weekend from the old system to the new.

We will also be clearing things out of the living room and dining room. The laminate flooring is being installed on Monday. And when that is all done, I can start doing some touch-up painting all around the house. And CLEANING. I just love it when we're told "there is going to be a mess; we want to be sure you know that". We have lived in a lot of places. There has never, ever been anything at all done in any of those places that did not make some kind of a mess; I don't care how carefully the work is done. But I guess for legal reasons they have to tell customers such things just to cover themselves. And the customer has to sign the form saying they were told. I am sure at some point in time there was some clueless person who contracted a major overhaul of some sort and then said they were going to sue because there was some dust on their windowsills or something. Some people are a waste of skin and not worth dealing with. But that is another story for another time.

So, things are progressing. It crossed my mind to include a picture or two in this post, but then I remembered my camera is not hooked up to the computer. So that will have to wait.

It's been warm for a couple days and today is windy and sunny. The pink bud trees are starting to bloom and I have seen some daffodils blooming here and there. Spring is approaching!

Stay safe!

!**&^#!@!*!!!!!

This will be short. NO carpet installed today. Have to live with the upheaval and mess. The guys took the carpet off the truck and it was the wrong size roll. We are DISAPPOINTED AND NOT HAPPY.

More later. Waiting for phone calls.

A Quick Update!

Golfer has taken the day off to be at home for the carpet installation. We wore ourselves out last evening moving what we could move - dresser drawers, boxes, miscellaneous closet stuff, etc.

The installers were stuck in traffic coming from "Southside" this morning but have now arrived and our carpet is here!

More later.........

Phone Calls, Calendars, and Scheduling! Oh, My!

Kirk finished the tile work on Tuesday afternoon and it looks beautiful. The house is still torn up and things displaced. It will get worse before it gets better. The plumber will be returning to adjust the new faucet's handles. He says "no problem"; we'll see. But I have high hopes! Then the bathroom can be put back together.

The carpet installation is taking place tomorrow. We are anxious for that to be over. Golfer and I will be moving small things out of the way this evening. The installers will be moving the large pieces of furniture back and forth. I imagine we'll spend most of the weekend putting things away and straightening up.

All of this work has caused many phone calls and juggling of the calendar. We have purchased a couple items that need to be scheduled for delivery and set-up, and it's been a real challenge to coordinate that. But so far, so good. I've decided to pick my battles and stay sane for everyone's sake. I had a minor melt down yesterday, but have recovered very well. Today is looking much brighter! Golfer and the Furry Kids will be happy about that!

The wood laminate flooring will be installed on the 16th. Golfer and I are both off work that day. We are looking forward to getting this major renewing of our house finished. There will still be some smaller jobs to be tackled, but the biggies will be done. I know for sure that some woodwork is going to need to be painted. And Golfer will be installing the quarter-round molding all around. Since we wanted it to all match, he said he would tackle that job.

So, that's how we're doing here. It's very cold and windy here in Virigina today. The sunny day is deceiving - the temperature is only in the 20's! Take care and stay safe!
