I Am Sooooooooooo Ready for Spring!

Well, we're pretty much snowed in again here.  True, it doesn't take much in this area to bring things to a halt.  But, come on! Two weeks in a row???  Last week we had snow and it hung around for a few days.  Closed schools, businesses, made road travel hazardous.  Even closed the golf course!  It finally melted away by Friday, with just a few little patches where it had been piled up when someone plowed a parking lot.  Friday it was almost 60 here.

Then it got cold again.  Really cold.  And yesterday it started snowing again.  And this time it meant business.  Again, schools, businesses, public transportation all shut down. Even closed the ferries! And today it's not getting above the mid-20's, so it won't be melting any time soon.  Golfer measured out front at around five inches.  Some areas got more.  There have been disabled vehicles on the roads, and wrecks, even though the officials keep saying to stay in.  This area is not equipped to handle large snowfall.  Only the most major roads and streets get cleared and treated.  In your own neighborhoods, you are on your own.

The weather has wreaked havoc on the high school exams.  BeyB was supposed to take hers last week.  Then this week.  Now her school has said they still have to take them, but if their scores hurt their grade average, it will be thrown out and forgotten.  Some of the districts made that decision last week and said "oh, just forget it!"

Golfer went out this morning and shoveled the driveway and walk.  We aren't planning to go anywhere.

I talked to NurseJ and they are all home and safe.

Bikini says they are all home and safe, too.  Was 9 there in Georgia this morning and they have
snow.  Brief was on the road for hours trying to get home yesterday.  Georgia is less equipped than Virginia for dealing with snow.

So.  Here we all are.  I have had a vision field appointment and a dental appointment this week before the snow.  All okay there.

We've been catching up on our recorded programs and doing a lot of reading.  As I said --- I am soooo ready for Spring!

Stay safe!

Some Thoughts and Perhaps a Mild Rant!

Hey, all!

Our weather here has been all over the place.  We've had cold - 11 degrees -  for a couple days.  Yesterday it was in the 70's and damp.  The damp turned into heavy rain, high wind and tornado warnings.  We were fine, but not too far away there is damage from downed trees and such.  Sirens went off and alerts come over the phone.  Today is cooler - in 50's - and the sun is out.

I'm still in clean-out mode here.  We've gone through the closets and dressers.  Have a few more areas to sort through and then I'll call DAV for a pick up.  There is work to be done in the yard, but   conditions are not right at this time.  :)  And my energy level is not up to it.

I've been getting used to my new Surface 2 tablet.  It was a Christmas gift from Golfer.  I like it!  But we have had some issues.  Right away Best Buy started sending us emails saying to download the virus protection.  We tried multiple times.  Never would work.  We made phone calls.  Still couldn't do it.  I tackled the project again this morning.  I called Geek Squad like their email said.  The young woman that answered my call seemed friendly and polite.  And she did try to help.  But, again, nothing worked.  She finally said I would have to go to the Geek Squad desk at Best Buy and have them do it.  So away we went.  In the space of about fifteen minutes or less it was discovered that the Surface 2 does not need to have the virus protection downloaded!  It would have been oh, so helpful, and so much better to  have had someone tell us that at the beginning!  And to NOT get the emails!  I have been hesitant to use the tablet because I was afraid of downloading something dangerous that would wreck it.  That was all for nothing!  So all is well now.

And while all is well with the Surface 2, I would like to state a personal opinion.  And I know it sounds terribly politically incorrect and prejudiced, but I think I prefer my Geek Squad help to be in the form of young, male persons with strange haircuts and bumpy complexions.  They just seem to have a few more answers.  I would also like to say that in a few years, when BeyB gets a job in the computer/technology field (this seems to be where she's headed) I will TOTALLY trust her with my computer questions.  It's just that the young lady today talked like a twangy Southern bimbo.  I could picture her with big blonde hair.  She did give it a good try to help, but .... nothing.  So I thanked her and said good-bye.

In other news, as of the first of January I am officially on Medicare.  I have my "Welcome to Medicare" appointment this week.  Woo hoo!  Golfer has worked out all the ins and outs of getting our prescriptions through the mail with Express Scripts.  So we're moving forward.

We've been reading some good books, and watching some good movies.  Here's a picture of Cinder watching "Pacific Rim" with us.  She's hoping the Kaiju don't get her!

I hope everyone is doing well and staying comfortable.  Stay safe!

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Well, it's COLD here.  Just like it is in most of the U.S.  Bikini says it was 4 there in Georgia and the kids did not have school for two days.  Have not heard if they went today or not.  It was 11 here yesterday morning.

We've just been staying in and keeping warm.  I've been doing some sorting out and catching up on some projects on my "list".  All is well.  Life is good.

NurseJ and ITGuy have a wonderful caregiver for CutieGirl.  This is a sample of CutieGirl's day:

CutieGirl is the one on the right
Maybe someday she'll teach me to play.  I've never been able to master chess!  We've decided she's winning because she has the most pieces on the board.  :)

Stay safe and stay warm!

Hey, Everyone!

I hope you are warm and dry where you are!  We had a couple really cold days.  Then today was in the high 50's.  But by Tuesday it's going to be in the 20's again.  Virginia.  Back and forth.

I mentioned I usually go into "clean out " mode after the first of the year.  I tackled the cabinets under the bathroom sinks.  Threw out a whole big bag of stuff.  Great things like multiple cans of the waterless cleanser they give you in the hospital.  I never felt like I should just throw those away.  Our insurance probably paid $100 a can!  So under the sink they went. I decided I was never going to use them, so out they went.  Also in the trash went the twenty year old nail polish and old lipsticks I  had been saving for some reason.  I was ruthless!  I also took inventory of the first aid supplies and have restocked as necessary.

The file cabinet got cleaned out and I spent some time shredding papers.  Gives a feeling of accomplishment, but what a mess!  Then I worked on my spreadsheets and got them ready for our tax guy.

I'm not sure what I will tackle next.  I'm thinking the closet and dressers in the bedroom.

Another project to work on is learning to make ice cream in the new machine Golfer got me.  I'll let you know how that turns out.  It has a motor but also a hand crank.  So now we have a possibility when the grandchildren are here and have too much energy!  :)  Golfer's family made ice cream with a hand crank churn.  It was always great and tasted even better when you had to work for it!

We went to see "Desolation of Smaug".  I like the Hobbits. But if I hadn't known there was another movie coming, I would have been really, really upset at the ending of this one!  Spoiler alert:  It ended with them not retrieving the Arkenstone, Gandalf was locked in a cage, and the dragon was flying off to burn the village.  Geez!

That's about it from here.  Stay safe and stay warm!

Happy New Year!

I hope you all are having a quiet peaceful day!  Golfer and I watched "Avatar" 3D last evening and then managed to stay awake to watch the ball drop.  We were in bed by 12:10.

If you are around a TV today here is what you will see:  FOOTBALL, Diet ads, go back to school ads, and join a gym ads.  We watched some news and "Mike and Mike" on ESPN this morning.  I don't know which games Golfer will check on today.  But I have other things I can do if I want.  :)

We went outside and took down the last of the decorations.  They are all packed up and Golfer got them back into the attic.  I cleaned off the porch and walk.

I have a list of things that need to be worked on.  Mostly all paperwork and desk stuff.  Some tax prep forms to update and things like that.  And I always, every year, feel like I go into clean out mode on January 1st.  I want to go through cupboards, closets, drawers, etc. and make piles for donations.  I plan to pace myself on all that.

I'm feeling better after being on the antibiotics for a couple days now for a sinus infection.  And Golfer has his own antibiotics for ear infection.  We've been taking it easy and drinking lots of orange juice and water.

While I was at the doctor's office, Rosa (the nurse) had me set up my "Welcome to Medicare" appointment for later this month.  As of today I am officially on Medicare. And then she gave me several pages of questions to answer.

So here we all are at the start of 2014.  I hope it's a good one for all of us.  Stay safe!
