Progress, and Some Stress

I have mentioned more than once about the work on our bathrooms that we started planning back in January.  That was planning to the point where things had been picked out, purchased, contracts signed and deposits made.  Then at about the same time in March, I had hip replacement surgery and Covid-19 hit the country and shutdowns happened.  And the businesses we were working with shut down.

As things started to slowly open up in spite of Covid 19, work slowly started happening.  Early last month the new tub/shower and surround were installed in the smaller bath.  Then we waited.  But last Saturday we had Greg come to do the rest of the demo and drywall work in there.  The old cabinet, sink, and counter top were removed.  That's when it was discovered that the turn-off valves that were original from when we built the house were no good.  We had leaks in both lines to the point where we had to turn the water off in the house completely when we went to bed so we wouldn't have to get up in the night to empty the buckets.  Greg did get the drywall all repaired.  He will return sometime soon to do the painting in both bathrooms.

We got a plumber to come on Monday and replace the faulty old valves.  So yay!  Only took him about thirty minutes and cost us $200.  That's checked off the list!

Today a little before 8:00 a.m. the men came to remove the counter tops in the master bath and remove the fixtures and plumbing there.  Only a slight leak in these valves, and the head guy talked with the plumber who said he will fix it tomorrow when he comes to install the new fixtures and for now they are just capped off.  As these guys were finishing up two more men came with the new granite tops.  We love them; they are very similar to our kitchen counter tops.  While they were installing the new counter tops, the first men were hanging up the new "Johnny Cabinet" in the smaller bathroom.  It matches the new sink cabinet.  All of this activity was done about 11:30.

Then, as you can surely imagine, there was some cleaning to do.  And some laundry.  And while we had our furry boys enclosed in the office, I clipped their nails and got that done.  Les suggested we put the sealer on the counter tops before the faucets are installed, so we just finished that.

For months the only places we've been going have been food or medical related and appointments had been rescheduled, some more than once.  But there comes a time when you need to keep your appointments and just put on your masks and be careful and still try to stay safe.

I had a dental appointment and an issue was found with one of my really old (as in antique) fillings that needs to be replaced.  I go back the end of the month for that.  Les had a spot check with the dermatologist, and I have one of those tomorrow.  Les also has his annual check-up with our GP doctor tomorrow.

As far as I know our girls and families are doing okay.  We are all trying to stay safe and be careful.  It worries me that so many people are out and about and in groups and not taking any precautions or wearing masks.  We see that in every news report and newspaper.  But our family is trying.  None of us want to get sick.

I will post more pictures when all the work is done in a couple weeks, but for now here are some progress pictures.

Take care of yourselves and stay safe.  Life is great even when it is stressful with lots of people going in and out of your home and making messes.  Things are always nice when they are finished.  Some of you know what I am talking about.

God Bless America!
