It Was Like a Never-Ending Journey

Les and I are home now, still recovering from the trip, but we are doing okay.

Going to Ohio we went a different route than usual because Les had seen reports of construction and back-ups on the PA Turnpike.  It was a nice ride and traffic was light.  While we were in Ohio, several people said the turnpike was okay and it wasn't that bad.  Based on those reports and the fact that it was a Saturday and the assumption was that traffic would not be so heavy around D.C. and on I-95, we went that way.  To be blunt, it was awful.

We spent over 10 1/2 hours getting home.  We didn't find the Cracker Barrel for breakfast and ate at a Service Plaza Burger King.  It was okay, but not what we were wanting.  The Starbucks there had no bold coffee.  Service was extremely slow at both counters. Parts of the turnpike were bone-jarringly rough and hurt.  There were delays and construction.  At one point, when going through a really busy work area, the GPS display on the new car went all wonky and the screen stayed messed up.  I suspect there was some electrical interference of some kind, but we will never know.  When we stopped for a potty break and restarted the car, it seemed okay, so it must have re-booted itself.

We finally got off the turnpike to find that the Flying J service station only had diesel fuel.  The shop looked much reduced in size and the restaurant was closed and there was no A/C in the restrooms.  Then we were back on the road.  Traffic was NOT lighter around D.C. area.  I-95 was a disaster.  I lost count of how many accidents we passed.  And I mean passed after sitting in the extreme heat while waiting, sitting still.  Emergency vehicles would be coming from behind us at times and traffic was bumper to bumper in all lanes and there was nowhere to go.  Eventually we got onto I-64 and it was heavy with back-ups, too.

We were glad to get back home.  The new TLX rides very nicely, and is comfortable. But my body decided that enough was enough and everything hurt.  I am gradually feeling better and am being careful to not over-do on the catching up.

Les is doing okay and he is playing golf today.  He had a good time playing with the Fairless Alumni group while we were in Ohio.  And he went to an Indians' game with Larry, our nephew and his sons.

Our furry boys are all speaking to us; they were happy to see the suitcases go back in the closet.   Jordan said Angus spent the time while we were gone hiding under the bed.

So, even when stressed or sad, life is still great.  Stay safe and God Bless America!
