Visitors

I had to get a picture of this beauty!  Jordan recently volunteered to help with the Living Museum Turtle Census.  I don't know how many were counted, but this one showed up under an Azalea bush in our yard.

I was not able to get a picture of the young deer that came into our yard one morning.  It was a hot, muggy morning that steamed all the windows.  He was just looking around and checking out the yard.

Some Got Done!

I made it outside yesterday morning after the weatherman said, and I quote, "It is a few degrees cooler".  I can tell you it was not that noticeable, but I stayed outside long enough to get a few things done. So it does not look quite so bare out there now.  There are still plenty of bare places where trenches and holes were filled in with topsoil, and some brown patches where the grass was just worn out.  But it is getting better.  In the first picture, I am planning to put Marigolds in the pot that is sitting there.

I also put some yard art out for the resting gnome.  And I got the bird feeder back up and filled.

Other than that, I am just working on the To-Do list and trying my best.  Les and I are okayish.

Take care, be kind, and God Bless America!

A New Guest!

The happy, lounging, little gnome appeared one day while I was at the hospital with Les.  Thanks, Jacquie!  I thought he would be comfortable in the new mulch where there is a little shade.

We are "okayish" here.  Les is slowly regaining some strength and he is doing what he can.  I am doing alright, and making sure I take some time to sit and rest.  😊

It is still hot and humid here.  I think we're all "done" with the heat and humidity and ready for something cooler.  But this is not happening yet.

I still need to get outside and get the bird feeder set back up, and put out a few pieces of yard decorations.  Any other yard work is going to wait for that cooler weather.

Take care and be kind.  God Bless America!

Some Progress

A previous post I made mentioned some of the issues with our tree removals.

The sprinkler system was repaired and is working now. The landscaping work finally happened this past week! Those guys did a good job. A lot of topsoil is filling in holes and trenches. We had a new bag of grass seed that they put down for us. This is not the best time of the year around here to grow grass. But, everyone said "why, not, it was worth a try". It will be seeded at aeration time in the Fall, too. They also took care of several other yard chores and put down new shredded cedar mulch.
The yard looks much better now; I am not so upset. This Summer has been a hard one for anything green. We have had very high temperatures and high humidity, and not much rain. The sprinkler system being out of service for a while did not help either.
When we have some cooler temperatures, I will get out there and put the bird feeder back in place and set out a couple pieces of "yard art". Maybe set a clay pot of flowers where one of the trees used to be.

Honestly, I have been more focused and worried about helping Les. He was hospitalized again for several days and we have more doctor appointments coming up. It was a bit longer this time due to the recurring UTIs plus a heart issue. But he is home now and if anyone asks him he says he is doing alright. He's being careful and has medicines for both issues. It just takes a while for him to regain any strength.

While all of these things have been happening, I managed to lose one of my hearing aids and had to see about getting a replacement. Got it a couple days ago and it is working fine. I have had some vision changes and moved my eye appointment from October to this week. I will be going back to wearing glasses again and should have them in about a month. I have had a few years after cataract surgeries where I only needed reading glasses, but that time is evidently over.

Finnigan is doing okay and is as sweet as ever!

Other than all of this, I am just trying to keep up with things. Take care of yourselves and stay safe, and be kind! God Bless America!

Happy Independence Day!

Be kind and stay safe!  As you have your parties and gatherings, remember the many people who have served our country and paid, sometimes with their lives, for us to have this freedom.

Hey

After a long stretch of extreme heat and humidity with no rain, today we have a little break.  There was a bit of rain during the night and it was only 77 when we got up.  All the days with a heat index at 100 or higher were brutal.  Needless to say, I did not do any yard work.  The weather forecast does say more rain later today.

But early this morning with it cooler, cloudy, and a breeze, I got out and did a little work out there.  The heat has been really hard on the blooming shrubs and other plants.  They did get watered some, but it's just not the same.  The blooms on the Hydrangea bushes looked like they had been burnt.  I dead-headed all of those.  I am hoping the little buds I saw on the stems will continue to grow.  The Day Lilies are about done except for some lovely yellow ones still blooming, so I took care of those, too.  By the time I finished with all that and cleaning up, it was getting hotter and I came inside.

We've had repairs on our sprinkler system and it now seems to be better.  None of the repairs or work by the landscaper have been done yet.  I was very careful walking around out in the yard trying to avoid the holes and trenches caused by the tree work.

However...... The front is doing pretty well and here's a picture of the new little Liriope blooming.  The new small shrubs are doing well, too.

And here's a picture of the morning sky.

Life is still good.  Be kind.  God Bless America!
