Not Sure Where the Week Went

Huh. Here it is, Saturday again, and more cold temperatures and more snow!  Fortunately for us the forecast was wrong and we only got four or five inches of snow instead of the up to eight inches they had said.  And the gale force winds seem to have missed us, too.  Right now the sun is out and we're at thirty degrees.  There is some melting happening already!  Yay!

I've been taking care of things around the house and got some errands done this past week.  Grocery shopping is still a challenge.  The Commissary and the civilian grocery stores are all having supply issues and they all have some empty shelves and cases.  Sometimes it is just hard to make substitutions.

But Les and I are doing okay. We went out for dinner Tuesday evening for my birthday.  Very nice meal and nice time!  Thanks for the good wishes!

Since the view out our back door was so beautiful this morning, you know I had to take pictures.

In spite of the cold and snow, a flock of robins came to our yard this afternoon.  I had to take the picture from our office window of this one.  I'm glad I filled the feeder yesterday!  I hope they can all find warm places to sleep tonight.

The Snow Watchers

I can only imagine that Finnigan is wondering why I am taking another picture!  Angus is focused on the squirrel out there jumping around in the snow.

Another Update

The second weather system came through and it started snowing late yesterday. I took these pictures this morning. We have maybe four inches instead of the seven or eight that were in the forecast. Southside and NC got a lot more. Right now the sun is shining and the temp is 32.

We are staying in.  Take care of yourselves and stay safe.  God Bless America!  Life is good!

Sooooo Ready for Spring

In case you are not up to date on the current weather forecasts, it is cold and snow is expected with two systems coming through here.  The first was yesterday and it rained and then turned to snow late last evening.  That was just a little.  I took this picture this morning.  Temperatures are not getting out of the 20's today.

Now we are waiting on the second system to come through.  As of the last forecast they are still saying up to seven inches could happen.  We just have to wait and see what we get.  But we are hoping it just passes us by.  As a precaution, businesses and schools started closing yesterday.  The VDOT crews are brining the roads and getting the plows ready.  And we are staying in.

I've been doing some cleaning and other odd jobs around the house.  We used the elliptical and done exercises.

Take care of yourselves and stay safe.  Life is good.  God Bless America!

Updates

Yesterday was just nasty here.  We had the short "mix" that then turned to rain for the rest of the day.  At times it was very heavy rain.  And it was very windy.  This morning the sun is out, it is still cold and the wind is still blowing at twenty to thirty mph.  Our cleaned up yard has many sticks and bits for us to clean up when it dries out enough for us to be out there.

C & E are disappointed that they did not get snow to play in.  I haven't heard from Jacquie yet today so I am just assuming they are all okay at her house.

Pam says the snow they got didn't stay around long.  She didn't mention any power outages, and Z & B have no school today.  So all is well there.

L & V say they are okay.  I saw pictures on the news of the tornadoes in Florida and the damage.  V said things had already been cleaned up around the condo and they had no direct damage.  Power was back on in the afternoon.

In Ohio it is still snowing and cold.  The forecast was for up to eight inches.

The Culligan Man was here already this morning and did his annual work.  He didn't find any problems and everything has been put back in place under the sink. 😊

As for me, morning stuff was done, and also a load of laundry, and a few other things.

Well.

To be honest, I could just post that picture from my last post again today.  That's how it looked earlier.  But the mix has now changed back into steady rain and the temperature is 35.  We just have to wait and see how this develops.  But there are alerts and warnings out and Les and I are not planning to go out.

However, lots of folks are having worse weather than this right now.  Pam is having dropping temperatures and snow and probably ice around them.  Reminds me of when she and Garrett were married.  Horrible, awful ice and snow storm then.  But we were happy to be there with them!

L & V are taking a vacation now and were about fifty yards from the tornado that touched down in Florida.  They are okay and will be glad when the power is back on.

C & E are hoping for snow at Jacquie's house.  Have not heard any more from Jacquie.  They were all okay yesterday morning when they came to help us get rid of seventeen bags of leaves and yard waste.  We thought it might take two trips but Chris is a good packer and tied them down.

All those bags were from the yard guys who came to help us.  We had met with the owner of the company about several things we need help with.  Everything will wait until March to be done except for this major clean-up.  We just can't handle getting all the leaves out of the rock area across the back of our yard.  Our blowers are not strong enough, and we are past trying to rake and sweep all that.  So right now, the yard is nice and neat.  We just have to wait and see how it looks after this weather system is finished!  And in March, the dead azaleas will be dug out, new ones planted, the areas around the new fence posts will be improved, a drain will be put in on the side yard, and new mulch will be put down.

We also met with our "guy" Steve and also a chimney man that Steve brought.  That conversation started because of a leaky spot above our fireplace that we thought was caused by wet leaves piling and sticking up on the roof in the crevice.  This has been an ongoing problem and worked on several time.  The chimney expert climbed up there and took pictures to show us how bad it is.  It's not the leaves.  The chimney cap is broken and very rusted.  And the siding is loose on the chimney.  Not visible at all from the ground.  So he is getting the new cap and top part made and will fix that.  Then someone else will come and replace the board or whatever is under the loose siding.  The loose siding is what is letting the water in, and the boards are soaked.  😣

Other than all that, we are just keeping up with things, reading, taking care of ourselves.  We went to Norfolk, Ghent area, for breakfast at Eggs Up Grill that recently opened.  We discovered Eggs Up in Myrtle Beach and we've eaten at several locations.  All have been good.  This one close to us now is very nice, food was great, service and staff were very good, and precautions were taken.  We will go again, but hopefully without the arguments we had with our GPS while getting there!

I hope everyone is well.  Stay safe and take care of yourselves.  Life is good!  God Bless America!

Basically Just a Weather Update

I took this picture yesterday afternoon when the snow started here.  There was some accumulation on the grass and mulched areas, but our street stayed clear.  Evidently there were a LOT of people out not being careful though.  The local news said thousands of police calls for assistance and accidents.  We did not go out.

I had a 7:30 a.m. doctor appointment today and left early just in case there were issues.  But the sun was out, it was 29, and the roads were clear.  No problems and the appointment went well.  It was checkup time for both my "bionic" knees.

Blah. Just Blah.

After several warm days, with one even setting a high temperature record, today is not getting out of the 30's.  It started getting windy and raining hard last evening.  It's still raining and windy.  Later this afternoon the rain is supposed to turn into a "mix" and we're supposed to get some snow.  There are closings and delays scrolling across the bottom of the TV screen.  Most of the area schools are closing early.

I realize that I haven't really posted much.  That might be mood related, but I'm okay.  Usually by December 27th everything is un-decorated, packed up, put away, and the house has been cleaned.  I have compromised this year and our living room tree is still up.  Everything else is done though.  We still haven't gotten to "do Christmas" with Jacquie, Chris, and the girls.  They all had what Jacquie has called the plague.  And this is in spite of them all having flu vaccines and Covid vaccines.  Jacquie and E were tested and were Covid negative, so that is good.  We are really hoping we can get together soon, the little ones want to see the tree and want to get it packed away. 😊

Otherwise, Les and I are doing okay. He is playing golf when he can.  Keeping up with things, reading some good books, taking care of ourselves.  Last week we went to Lazy Boy and bought ourselves new recliners.  Sadly, because of the usual supply chain issues, we might get them in March.  But we picked out ones we both liked and were comfortable.

Whenever things dry off out in the yard, we need to do some cleanup.  There are still leaves to gather up and now with the wind and heavy rain there are limbs and branches, too.

Please take care of yourselves and stay safe.  God Bless America!  Life is good.
