Hello

I haven't been posting much.  Mostly that is because I like to be a positive person and a lot of days I have not felt that way.  I am working on it though.  Life is still good.

Our girls and families are doing "okay".  Some days better than others.  Boxer and Bloomer will be starting an alternative class schedule next week at their high school.  They will be in the classroom two days a week and remote/online classes the other days.  I hope this works well for all concerned.  Jordan's classes were delayed, but should be starting soon, all online.  Cutie Girl's school still needs to make a decision.  And Little Miss E's preschool has a projected start date of January 4, 2021.

Covid Cases still going on.  Precautions still be taken, distancing, masks, etc.

Les had to have some surgery and had a week of really taking it easy and recuperating.  He is feeling better and today is his first day back out on the golf course.  I hope he has a good time.  I know he was looking forward to it.

I am doing okay.  Been taking care of him and things around home.  Keeping up with things.  Going to pick-up groceries later this morning.

We had a sudden thunderstorm last evening and this morning I discovered shingles on top of the Liriope out front.  Our "Guy", Steve, said he'd have someone here today.  Hopefully it will be an easy fix and they don't find any other damage.  We are supposed to get heavy rain from Laura this weekend.  I would prefer that does not come inside!

We've been reading some good books and watching some good shows.  One recent discovery is "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel".  We are also enjoying "Schitt's Creek" and working our way through "The Orville".

So, life goes on and it is good, just different.  Stay safe and take care of yourselves.

God Bless America!

The Rain Has Stopped and Other Updates

We had several more really rainy days.  It finally stopped late yesterday and I got out to check our rain gauge.  It said 4 1/2" this time.  I emptied it and we're ready for the next round.  But today is sunny and around 80.  It is still pretty wet out in the yard and we have some puddles left.

Early this morning I took a couple pictures.  Like I said, it is still wet.  We saw this guy walking down the street next to our curb out front.  We think he was headed for the storm drain.  Over the years, we have had frogs, toads, and turtles in our yard, but the Crawdad was a first!

The other picture this morning was of the sky.  Remember to always look up!

Our TLX is still in the collision repair shop, so I needed to take Les out to the golf course this morning so I could keep our MDX.  I had a doctor appointment for my annual ear check.  Slight change, and he says not time yet to look into a hearing aid.  He did remove a couple plugs of thick wax, and that seemed to help.  😊

I got a grocery order placed and will pick up tomorrow morning.

Other than all this, I've just been keeping up with the usual stuff and taking care of things around the house.

Life is good.  Stay safe and take care of yourselves.  God Bless America!

Scenes from a Finished Bathroom

As I have mentioned in previous posts, we started planning some bathroom upgrades in January.  Then doctor appointments happened, my surgery happened, and Covid 19 came to town.  Businesses shut down and no work started.  But the work has gradually been getting done and now, seven months later, we can happily say it is finished!  The mirror was delivered and hung yesterday.

So here are some pictures.  Since it is a smaller bathroom, angles were tight for picture taking.

And here is one of the master bath.  It did not get as much work done, but is "refreshed".

In other news.....

We took our TLX in for the needed repair work from the pickup truck backing into her.  Hopefully, she will be finished next week.

Also, the prescription cat food our furry boys need to eat is on backorder nationwide and their doctor has no idea why.  We are trying a different food. Wish us luck.  The last time a change was made Angus got diarrhea.  😕

It is  hot and humid here.  The yard is looking good after all the storm cleanup.  I'm just trying to keep up with all the usual stuff now.

Updates on Life in General

Well, here we are.  Our storm cleanup is done; large pile of branches are at the curb along with several bags of "stuff" we picked up.  The truck should be coming through the neighborhood today to take it all away.  Les has mowed and trimmed and the yard is looking pretty good right now.

I am feeling better.  We got the estimate for the repairs from the accident on the TLX and she goes in Wednesday morning for a few days.

The smaller bathroom ceiling was painted and looks much better.  I have put things back in the cabinets and hung the shower curtain and a couple things on the walls.  Last part will be the mirror coming and installed tomorrow afternoon.  Then I'll take pictures.

Our MDX goes in for the annual safety inspection tomorrow morning.  Our usual routine is to drop off whatever car needs work and then go to breakfast.  So we'll do that and have breakfast out in the fresh air.

Steve, our handyman guy, is going to come and take care of a couple things for us.  Greg, who did the drywall and painting in the bathrooms, is going to come and fix the shed door that needs work.

I have a couple doctor appointments, one this week with the dermatologist and one next week with the "Ear Doctors".  And, just let me say, I will not be at all surprised if they finally tell me it is time to do something about the fact that I am having hearing issues.  (I know Les will be glad if something is done)  I have mixed feelings, but I would really like to hear better, so "whatever!"

Yesterday was Les' birthday.  It was a quiet day, but a good one.

We are still being very careful and wearing masks and distancing.  Covid cases in Virginia just keep going up.

The "Guys' Golf Trip" that was originally scheduled for the end of April and then postponed due to Covid 19 is not totally cancelled yet, but Les and quite a few of the guys have cancelled and are waiting for their refunds.  We have not heard anything definite on the Retirees' Tournament. That was also postponed from May until November.  But honestly, the entire group for that tournament is in the "at risk" category, so it just doesn't make sense to risk it.  I like to be optimistic, but I really doubt that a vaccine will be developed and distributed by then.

So, life goes on.  It is still great though.  We all have many things on our minds.  Stay safe and take care of yourselves.  God Bless America!

Well! Where to Start?!?

First, let me say that Les and I are okay and have not found any damage so far from Isaias.  Most of the storm was in our area during the night and early this morning.  We had alerts for tornado warnings on the phone at 1:30 a.m. and about 4:30 a.m.  There were tornadoes that touched down, but not right near us.

The local weatherman gave totals on his report and we got at least 3 1/2" of rain and the highest wind gusts were around 60 mph.  The yard is a mess.  Many, many branches and limbs down, chunks of leaves, "stuff" blown around.

When the rain stopped I went out and wiped off all the deck and patio furniture and got things set back up.  Then swept off the patio and deck.  I figured it was a start on the cleanup.  I took this picture before I started sweeping.

Then this afternoon, Les and I went out and did some clean up out front.  So at least that part is done.  The back yard will take a lot longer and will get worked on over the next couple days.  Les walked all around the house and looked at the roof and it seems fine.

There are many power outages, downed lines, and flooding near the coastal areas.  We did not lose power, but the generator is ready!

Pam had some of the storm and heavy rain.  Unfortunately, that was on the first day back to school for Boxer and Bloomer.  But Pam says the day went okay.

Jacquie says they are doing okay.  Last I heard from her they were helping a neighbor who had a downed tree.

Before all this storm stuff happened, I was already on edge.  Yesterday morning I went out to do two errands.  As I was leaving a parking lot headed to the exit, a construction company pickup truck hit our car.  As I was was slowly driving behind him to the exit, he decided to just back up, either without looking or he didn't see me.  He got out, said he was sorry.  We exchanged all our information.  I have called State Farm and our claim has been started.  It's not a lot of damage but it is on the TLX and quite noticeable.  I was not injured but definitely was shaky.

As accidents go, this one was minor.  But, having said that, just being the driver getting hit was enough to dredge up old bad memories of the much worse accident in 1999.  I can usually keep those memories way in the back of my mind, but I really don't think they will ever go away.  So, I've been dealing with emotions, stress, and honestly, just being really pissed off that the guy hit me.

We have an appointment to get an estimate on repairs for tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow will be a busy day.  We have our pest control guy coming for his quarterly visit in the morning.  And in the evening our painter guy is coming to give the smaller bathroom ceiling a coat of paint.  😊

Life remains good.  Stay safe!  And God Bless America!
