The Furry Kids Are Home!

Hermione, Cinder and Cecil are home; and they are concerned that all their stuff has been touched! I got them all set up in our office and they have had to stay in here since they got home. Hopefully, this evening they will be able to come out and move about the house. There was some "knocking" of the door and some hollering last night, but they are fine.

Kirk is putting down the rest of the tile in the kitchen and when he is finished with that he says he'll begin grouting everything but the kitchen. He plans to come tomorrow to grout that area.

So for now, all is well, even though still in disarray.

More later!

We're Making Progress!

It's been a busy week around here! Basically, everything is torn up, moved around and displaced. But it will be lovely when it is all done! It's just an inconvenience right now. Golfer and I spent one night in a hotel while wet mortar was blocking the pathway to the bedroom and bathroom. The furry kids have been at the Kitty Condos at the clinic since Monday morning. I'll be picking them up later today. I hope they will speak to me! Lisa has been giving us daily reports on them and says they are doing okay.

As far as progress on the tile job---- the hallway is tiled, as well as the bathroom, laundry nook, linen closet and most of the kitchen. We had to order more tile for the kitchen and it should be in tomorrow. Kirk moved on to the "fancy" work around our fireplace hearth and it looks very nice. The plan for tomorrow is to grout everything and finish the tiling in the kitchen. Enhancer will be put on the accent tiles. Kirk said maybe some things will be moved back into place tomorrow. We'll see. I told him it didn't make sense to have to move things a couple more times if he didn't need to. He was worried about us being inconvenienced more.

I have a plumber lined up to come on Monday to install the new bathroom faucets and toilet.

ReStore from Habitat for Humanity will be picking up our donated items on Saturday.

We've placed the order for the new carpet, so that will be the next step. No date on that yet.

While this has all been going on, I've been doing some work from home. Some lovely ladies from our church have been covering the office for me. Thanks! I've gone in at odd times and done the work I needed to do. I have also been doing some painting on the bathroom when I could be in there and not in Kirk's way. (There will pictures after things are cleaned up.)

Stay safe! More later!

And We're Underway!

It's been rather busy around here lately. Golfer and I have been trying to get a few things done in preparation of the new flooring project. I had mentioned earlier about the bathroom and one thing leading to another. Yes. Well. That continues. At this point though, most of the first coat of paint is on the walls. After a few glitches, Golfer got the new light fixture installed. That turned out to be a bigger project than we anticipated, due mainly to the way the original contruction of the house was done. But the light is up and I think it looks good and will be just fine. Golfer did a great job! Thanks, honey!

Golfer and I had a strenuous morning rounding up the furry kids. I guess it would be more accurate to say rounding up Cecil. Hermione and Cinder were fairly easy to get into their carriers. However, Cecil is afraid of everything and is very timid. Evidently he is also a mind reader. He knew something was up. We all went round and round and round. We almost had him when he was under the Lazy-Boy loveseat, but he had wrapped himself around the mechanical workings under there and I lost my grip on him trying to get him out. Then he was behind the big TV. Golfer moved it and Cecil moved behind the speakers. Poor little Cecil was so scared he peed on himself (and us). But finally Golfer was able to scoop Cecil up and then we hugged him and talked nice to him and I put him in his carrier. They are all now safely checked into the kitty condos at York Veterinary Clinic. Our friend, and their regular sitter, Lisa, works there and will keep an eye on them.

Kirk is here working now. The old toilet has been removed, doors taken down and moved into the garage, vinyl flooring and carpet is coming up and other big items are being moved out. So the work is underway.

The new countertop is scheduled to be installed late this afternoon.

Take care of yourselves and stay safe! More later!

Projects! Projects! Projects!

We're in renovation mode again here! The floor tile work in the foyer, hallway, kitchen and second bathroom is to start this Wednesday. Plans to be confirmed tomorrow. We're anxious for this to get underway and be done. And, as one thing always leads to another . . . . . . we decided since the toilet had to come up in order for floor tile to go down, why not replace it now since that was on the project list anyway. And you know, if we're going to replace the toilet, why not the countertop and the faucets and get it over with?

So.... the bathroom has been emptied. The wall border has been removed - great job, Golfer! The large mirror has been removed to be donated to ReStore and Habitat. That revealed a hole in the wall that was hidden behind the mirror. This hole was obviously made by someone who did not know what they were doing. The hole was medicine cabinet size. And in the hole was a message: "WRONG PLACE" and an arrow pointing to the other wall where the cabinet actually is! And when the house was built, instead of repairing this hole, the contractor just let it be covered up. And, NO, I do not know if this contractor is still in business, but I will be on the look-out for them!

We had some drywall left after the major bathroom remodel last Summer. Golfer cut a piece and put it in the hole. We mudded it. Today after church we went to Lowe's and bought a new sander. It works just fine. Always nice to have a new power tool! But let me tell you, that is a mess in there! I just finished putting a thin coat of mud on the area for the second coat and hopefully tomorrow we can sand it again, clean things up and start painting. We'd like to have it done before the floor work starts. And the guys come to do the template for the counter top. And the plumbing hook-up gets done.

It's a good thing it has been too cold for golf this weekend. We've gotten a lot done around here. It snowed a little this morning; nice big fluffy flakes. Very pretty, nothing stuck, and it's done now.

I hope you are all well and happy. Take care and check back for updates!

Hey, All!

We're still here, just been busy. Golfer and I have been looking at flooring - tile, laminate, carpet. And we met with our "tile guy" Kirk, who did such a great job on our bathroom last summer. We will soon be starting work on the foyer, kitchen, second bath, and hallway. All will be tiled. I am anxious for it to be done and we haven't even started yet! I'm sure it will be beautiful. Then Golfer plans to start installing laminate flooring in the dining room.

Besides all that, we had to take VJ, our Chrysler LHS, in for service. The locking mechanism was making loud noises and didn't lock. All fixed now.

We had some bad storms this past week but thankfully we did not have any damage. Others in our area were not so lucky and there were trees down, power outages, and other storm damage reported. Today is cool and very sunny, but they say rain is on the way and maybe snow later in the week. Our family in Ohio has reported they are having a lot of snow now, so that's probably what's on the way.

Today would have been Golfer's Mom's birthday. Sadly, she passed away last April after a long hard struggle and several years in a nursing home. She was a lovely lady. I hope she and Dad are having a party somewhere happy today. This is their wedding picture. We miss you, Mom and Dad.
Stay safe. More later.

Remembering Peggy

I think this photo was taken at my Grandma's second wedding. I never knew my "real" Grandpa, he died before I was born. Grandma lived with Mom and me until she married Grandpa Claude.
Anyway, this picture is of my cousins Tod and Duane, and my nieces Pat and Peg, and me. Peggy is no longer with us. We miss you, Peggy!

Happy New Year!

All is well. It is cold again here in Virginia - in the 20's this morning. Golfer and I had a quiet New Year's Eve - went to an early movie, had some snacks at home and called it a night about 12:05.

Today we're just doing things around the house. I'm working on the file cabinet, cleaning the files out, shredding papers, and getting things ready for 2009. Golfer is sorting and putting away our DVDs (got new ones for Christmas) and updating our movie list.

We hope you all had a great holiday and we wish everyone a wonderful, peaceful 2009!

Stay safe!
